The American Football, an Introduction
The American Football is a kind of team sport that is being played by two opposing teams having eleven players using an oval ball. The sport is being played on a rectangular, 120 by 53.3 yards field. There are goalposts situated at each side. The offense team will then try to move forward on the field by either passing or running with the ball. The offense team’s goal is to try to run 10 yards at least down the field and have a four series of downs. If they fail, they will then lose the control over the ball.
The evolution of American football came from the early beginnings of rugby and football associations. The first football was played on the 6th of November year 1869. Then due to some reasons, the football rules were changed since 1880. This was implemented by Walter Camp adding the rules on 11 members per team.
As of today, the American football has gained the most popular title in sport being played in the United States of America, having the National Football League or (NFL) as the most popular league. Along with it, the league’s championship known as the Super Bowl is one of the most watched event in sport for the whole world.
The advancement of the ball on a football game happens as a series of until 4 downs or plays. Before the start of every play, a game official will position the ball on the field. The ball’s long axis will then be facing the sidelines in a parallel position. It will be laid between or on two sets of the hash marks on the line, in a parallel position to the goal line on where the last down has been declared dead. Both the opposing teams will be lining on either sides of the neutral zone or the line of scrimmage.
The play will now begin as the ball is being lifted on the ground by an offense player who will be at the center, then passé it backwards to a second player that is usually the quarterback. The game will now go on until the ball is dead, at this point; the down will be called over.
Both teams may score points in various ways while on football. One way is the touchdown which is equivalent to six points. It happens as one team, the offense or the defense team, will happen to advance the ball into the opponents’ end zone.
